This chapter from a specialist book ?Gestalt therapy in clinical practice? presents a scientific view on the topic of diagnostics seen from the Gestalt psychotherapy point of view. Current research based findings and specialist literature on the topic ofdiagnostics are elaborated, then a new and original scientific piece of knowledge is presented. The chapter focuses on the possibility of using different diagnostic perspectives, substantiates their advantages and limits in a clinical practice with severely disturbed patients. Clinical experiences on the given topic are elaborated. Psychopathology is seen (1) from the perspective of a psychopathological disturbance, (2) from the perspective of a broader social context and (3) from the perspective of arelational field dynamics. Guidelines for psychotherapy work in clinical practice are deduced from described diagnostic procedures and ilustrated by case study examples.
