This chapter from a specialist book ?Gestalt therapy in clinical practice? presents a scientific view on the topic of psychotherapy treatment of depression seen from the Gestalt psychotherapy perspective. Current research based findings and specialist literature on the topic of psychotherapy of depression are elaborated, then a new and original scientific piece of knowledge is presented. The text provides an overview of differently severe depressive states and a theoretical analysis of their intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics in a clinical practice with severely disturbed patients. Clinical experiences on the given topic are elaborated. Psychopathological diagnosis of depression is connected to the dynamics of a psychotherapy relationship and toa broader social context. Guidelines for psychotherapy work in clinical practice are deduced from described theoretical concepts and ilustrated by case study examples.
