Corrupt elites, pure people and double standards? Attitudes of Central European populist and mainstream political party sympathisers to systemic and individual corruption
Original language description
One of the key populist attitudes is the belief in the corruption of mainstream elites. The chapter deals with the question of whether there is a discriminatory legalism at the core of this attitude (corruption of the meinstream is not tolerated, however corruption behavior of the populists themselves is). An analysis of Central-European populist and mainstream sympathizers shows that populist sympathizers are more critical of systemic (elite) corruption, but more tolerant of day-to-day corruption than mainstream parties sympathizers. This provides cautious support for further developing the discriminatory legalism thesis.
