Structural insight into specificity of Ralstonia solanacearum lectin RS-IIL
Original language description
Carbohydrates are essential components of life and play significant roles in each organism including host pathogen interactions. Lectins that specially recognize sugar components can be involved in primary recognition of host organism and thus they are candidates responsible for pathogenicity of bacterium1. Ralstonia solanacearum is a devasting soil-borne plant pathogen with a global distribution and wide host range 1. It is phylogenetically related to an animal pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa that express two soluble lectins, PA-IL and PA-IIL respectivelly. Both lectins are closely associated with the virulence of the bacterium 2. The contribution is focused on structural characterization of R. solanacearum lectin RS-IIL that shows high sequence similarity with the PA-IIL lectin. RS-IIL was crystallized by hanging drop vapor diffusion method and the diffraction data at 1.70Å resolution were collected under cryogenic conditions (100K) on the beamline ID14 2, at ESRF, Grenoble, Fr
