Karyotype Evolution in n=7 Species from Different Crucifer Tribes
Original language description
Molecular phylogenetic data along with comparative genetic and cytogenetic analyses suggest that karyotype evolution in the mustard family (Brassicaceae) is characterized by the constancy of basic chromosome number x=8 in more than a third of species with reductions toward lower chromosome number in several lineages (n=8 to n=7/6/5/4). We used the Ancestral Crucifer Karyotype (ACK; n=8) consisting of eight ancestral chromosomes and 24 conserved chromosomal blocks (Schranz et al. 2006), and the comparative genetic map of Boechera stricta (n=7; Schranz et al. 2007) as a basis for the reconstruction of karyotype evolution in several n=7 species from different crucifer lineages (B. stricta: Boechereae; Myagrum perfoliatum and Glastaria glastifolia: Isatideae; Noccaea caerulescens: Noccaeeae; Thellungiella halophila: Eutremeae; Conringia orientalis: Conringieae; Calepina irregularis and Goldbachia laevigata: Calepineae; Ochthodium aegyptiacum: Sisymbrieae).
