Reclassification of Staphylococcus sp. CCM 2615 as Staphylococcus stepanovicii

  • Original language description

Modern molecular methods were used for clarification of taxonomic position of a strain Staphylococcus sp. CCM 2615 deposited at the Czech Collection of Microorganisms since 1972. This strain was originally deposited as Staphyloccoccus epidermidis by K.H.Schleifer and was considered to be related to Staphylococcus sciuri group. Recently, genotypic methods (16S rRNA and rpoB genes sequencing and rep-PCR fingerprinting with the (GTG)5 primer) were used for identification of this strain. Obtained results showed that the strain CCM 2615 represents a recently described species Staphylococcus stepanovicii isolated from free-living small rodents (bank vole).
