Physiological responses of fluoranthene stressed pea plants

  • Original language description

The results of this study confirmed negative effect of PAH fluoranthene (FLT) on growth, photosynthetic pigments content, primary processes of photosynthesis (chlorophyll fluorescence parameter ? FV/FM, Hill reaction activity) and changes in GSH contentin pea after 27 days of cultivation in Reid-York nutrient solution. FLT was applied in concentrations 0.1, 1 and 5 mg l-1. Significant decrease of dry weight of root, stem and leaves and chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids content was found under the effectof higher FLT concentrations (1 and 5 mg l-1). Similarly the maximum quantum yield of PSII (FV/FM) and the Hill reaction of isolated chloroplasts were significantly inhibited in both higher treatments. The GSH content decreased in stem and increased inleaves with increasing FLT concentration. The content of FLT in root, stem and leaves of pea well correlated with the FLT loading of the environment.
