Utilization of the anodic electro-osmotic flow for an amino acids profiling by capillary electrophoresis

  • Original language description

Amino acid profiling is sometimes considered to be a supplementary analysis for diagnostic purposes. Detection of amino acids by conventional spectrophotometric techniques is hindered by lack of chromophores in their structures, thus derivatization stepin a sample treatment protocol has to occur. However, amino acids in their native form can be detected by other detection techniques, e.g. mass spectrometry or capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D). C4D is a non specific detectiontechnique suitable for detection of ionic species and was successfully used for determination of amino acids. Completely resolved peaks were obtained only when long capillaries and electro-osmotic flow (EOF) suppression were applied. However, effectiveseparation time of analytes of interest can be altered by EOF modification. Induction of the anodic EOF for amino acid profiling in the shorter capillaries is the subject of presented contribution.
