The bioinformatic analyses of “-omes” of helminths with special focus on serine peptidases of Eudiplozoon nipponicum

  • Original language description

Parasitic helminths are causative agents of number of serious diseases (helminthiasis) of animals and people. Our understanding to the biological processes of helminths is based also on detailed knowledge of their molecular biology and biochemistry. By using the modern pyro-sequencing methods and computer databases (genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic) we can now faster and more accurately identify numerous sets of protein molecules which are essential for life of parasites. Since September 2011 the “50 Helminth Genomes Project” is running, but from a large group of Monogenea only one species is currently sequenced - Protopolystoma xenopodis. We would like to change this situation and therefore we adopted Eudiplozoon nipponicum (Monogenea: Diplozoidae) as a model organism and started some preliminary analyses leaded to generation of E. nipponicum genome, transcriptome and proteome databases. We would like to use data platforms for identification and further characterization of protein molecules involved into the interaction between host and parasite. Our preliminary transcriptome results suggest that such molecules could be serine peptidases. Serine peptidases are molecules essential for life in all organism including parasitic helminths. These molecules help them to penetrate the defensive barriers and avoid the immune attack of the host. Hematophagous parasites allows digest blood and obtain necessary nutrients.
