Original language description
Basic ecological studies in fish parasitology focused on parasite distribution in host populations, the structure of parasite communities and host-parasite interactions. We presented the basic terminology in parasite population ecology and community ecology. Parasite interactions determining competition and coexistence in parasite communities were defined. Host specificity as the most widely used descriptor of parasites in their communities was introduced. Finally, basic indexes of species diversity and similarity of communities were presented.
