Metal Oxide Laser Ionization MS Imaging of Fatty Acids and their Double Bond Positional Isomers
Original language description
Many metal oxides, for example CeO2, have catalytic properties and can efficiently cleave ester bonds of mono-, di-, triacylglycerides, and phospholipids producing free fatty acid (FA) ions under UV laser irradiation. This can be efficiently used for mapping the distribution of FAs using metal oxide laser ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MOLI MSI). In this work, we have coupled MOLI MSI with on-tissue reaction of unsaturated FAs with ozone to estimate content of FA isomers in tissue.
