Original language description
From the Depths of the Soul is designed as a compilation of individual content-wise loosely related essays reflecting art therapeutic work of the author, Hana Stehlíková Babyrádová, and her students which was realised with clients of a psychiatric hospital. In the context of this main theme line, the author ponders upon the general purpose of art expression and the role of visual art in a human life. The specialised text of the book which has a hermeneutical character contains personal commentaries of students from the Department of Art Education, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University (Brno, CZ). In the commentaries, students summarise their observations from their practice in a psychiatric hospital which they frequented with the author of the book in the duration of two years. However, the aim of the publication is not to present a diagnostics of pathological phenomena or to provide a methodology to art therapy practicing but rather to help uncover possible personal attitudes to the initiation and understanding of art expression of psychotic people.
