ESSE seminar 03: Specialised discourse: wherefrom and whereto?
Original language description
Specialised discourse is shaped by the discursive practices of professional discourse communities which share a culturally defined kind of specialised group knowledge (Van Dijk 2014, Gotti 2008). The seminar focuses on the study of the generic structure, rhetorical conventions and linguistic practices of various specialised discourses, such as academic, technical, legal, as well as the emergence of new forms and conventions under the influence of the use of English as the international language of professional communication and the spread of new communication technologies. This seminar welcomes papers which address these issues from the perspectives of corpus and discourse analysis and intercultural rhetoric.
