Original language description
EU Rail Policy is above all aimed at liberalization of the European rail industry, both passenger and freight. Even if liberalization in rail industry is not a completely new direction, the development process has been accelerated recently. European railway industry has been pushed to the new era with different competitive environment which was motivated by the EU effort to revitalize the EU?s railway. This paper summarizes effects permitting competition into rail freight and ways how to do it, and thenit assesses a level of rail freight in the EU countries and finds out causes of low performance or low degree of liberalization respectively.
