External Hires and Employers' expectations of their performance
Original language description
Externally recruited employees tent to have lower productivity initially. In an experimental setting, we investigate the interaction of group identity, in-group and out-group affiliation, and the productivity of newly appointed workers in a company. Managers tend to have higher effort expectations of the internally promoted candidates but the actual effort level does not differ between internally and externally recruited candidates.
