A thermodynamic modelling of the B-C system was performed via CALPHAD techniques incorporating the new data. The consequences of either a eutectic (L - (ßB)+B4C) or a peritectic reaction (L+B4C - (ßB)) on the liquidus in the systems M-B-C were outlined for M=Ti, Zr, Hf, W.
