Hormonal Regulation of the Root Gravitropism
Original language description
Root gravitropic response is regulated by differential auxin distribution and auxin-mediated regulation of cell elongation in the root tip. Fast changes in the intracellular localisation of PIN auxin efflux carriers in columella cells were demonstrated to be important for the root gravitropic response. To determine the potential role of cytokinins in the root gravitropic response, we described dynamics of root bending early after gravistimulation in lines with disturbed cytokinin signalling or endogenous cytokinin levels. We observed delayed gravitropic response in transgenic lines with depleted endogenous cytokinins (Pro35S:AtCKX2 and Pro35S:AtCKX3) and in cytokinin signaling mutants. Plant lines carrying cytokinin perception-deficient ahk3 mutant allele revealed aberrations in the auxin accumulation in columella cells, suggesting defects in the auxin transport machinery.
