Organometalic Cationic Initiators for UV Inks
Original language description
A several new arene-iron complexes were prepared by the treatment of chlorobenzene with ferrocene in the presence of aluminium. The obtained chloroaluminate complexes were converted into hexafluorophosphates by treatment with aqueous solution of hexafluorophosphate salt. The hexafluorophosphate complexes are easier to store and handle. These compounds were characterized by NMR and MS spectroscopy. The UV light decomposes arene-ironcyclopentadienyl (arene-FeCp+) cation selectively to the corresponding aromatic compound and iron cyclopentadiene (CpFe+) cation. During irradiation formed FeCp+ is the active species for cationic polymerization. The polymerization activities of prepared arene-FeCp+ complexes for epoxide and vinylether monomers were measuredby FTIR spectroscopy. The solubility of prepared compounds in the monomer is limited factor for application of these compounds.
