Effect of Physicochemical Conditions on Ceramic Cross-Flow Microfiltration of Mineral Dispersions
Original language description
The influence of particle size and zeta-potential of particles and membrane surface (ZrO2, alpha-Al2O3) with change of pH on permeate flux during the microfiltration of model dispersions on tubular ceramic membranes have been studied. The experiments include basic characteristics of alumina tubular membranes and model dispersions (aqueous titania dispersions). The description of the experimental system is also presented. It was found that permeate flux was dependent on the surface charge of the suspended particles and possibly dependent on the surface charge of the membrane. This phenomenon was especially pronounced during the microfiltration in isoelectric point of dispersion, when permeate flux increased.
