Geographic information has become a necessary part of our lives. Nowadays it is needed by the people, publicadministration and business. Due to the increasing demand for easy and cheap access to geographic information andgeoprocessing services new technologies have been developed. So called Internet GIS are spreading rapidly over theInternet. For many people it is normal to use their services. Many schools have introduced subjects which concernpublishing geographic information by means of Internet and computer networks in general. Internet GIS are now veryoften understood as a part of an institutional information system so a there are many new demands on them - for examplereliability, trustworthiness or remote administration.Although remote administration belongs to the basic requirements on Internet GIS, it is not so easy to implement itbecause of security restrictions, operating system capabilities, Internet map server's requirements, speed of Internetconnection and many other reason

Geografické informační systémy jsou nezbytnou součástí našeho života, jsou užívány jak občany, tak institucemi veřejné správy a jinými firmami a organizacemi. Projevují se zde služby nových technologií, tzv. Internet GIS se rychle rozvíjí. Pro mnoho lidíje přirozené uživat tyto služby, mnohé školy mají zařazeny předměty týkající se zpřístupňování geografických informací na Internetu nebo v prostředí počítačových sítích. Internetová GIS řešení jsou dnes často chápány jako součást informačních systémů organizací, takže jsou na ně kladeny mnohé nové požadavky - například důvěryhodnost, spolehlivost či vzdálená administrace. Ačkoliv vzdálena administrace patří k základním požadavkům, není tak jednoduché ji implementovat kvůli bezpečnosti, možnotem operačního systému, ... V příspěvku jsou popsány první výsledky probíhajícího výzkumu, který se zabývá využitím internetových GIS ve veřejné správě.
