In recent years growing attention has been paid to the study of performance measurement systems as effective instruments for organisation's performance improvement. The paper presents findings of exploratory research related to the currently existing performance measurement systems characteristics identification. The research process is based on a questionnaire survey applied to selected companies in the most competitive industries in the CR. The main research aim is to investigate the current practicesof using performance measurement systems as well as to identify and understand their main elements, principles and roles. To fulfil the main research purpose it was necessary to answer the following questions: What is the quality of current approaches to performance management, in selected companies in the most competitive industries?
