Possible Implementation of Tram-trains in the Ostrava Region
Original language description
This paper summarizes the most distinctive aspects of a selected region in the Czech Republic with regard to possible implementation of a tram-train system. Particular specifications of the region are briefly described. Subsequently, based on the extensive railway network in the area, an example of horizontal alignment of a set of tram-train lines is designed. Since there is a possibility of various alignments to be created, a horizontal alignment that respects the existing network of railways and sidings as much as possible is presented as this tends to decrease the budget of the construction. Finally, this paper tries to determine gaps and problems that are on course for a designer when they have an intention to create a project of tram-train lines either in the selected region or in any other area of the Czech Republic.
