Applicability of GPR on Turkish Railways
Original language description
In 2014, the length of high-speed railway lines has reached 1,213 km and the length of conventional railway lines was 11,272 km in Turkey. In this year, 48,260,061 TL has been spent for construction and repair activities on these railway lines. For effective evaluation and decision making process on railway maintenance and reconstruction, the accurate diagnosis of the rail structure is the significant entry. This diagnosis currently consists of visual inspections and destructive diagnostic methods commonly connected with opening trenches and drilling. These methods are both budget and time consuming and in majority of cases there are demands on traffic restrictions in these track sections. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), which has already proven to bea promising nondestructive measurement methodology in transport infrastructure diagnosis, provides a continuous and fast survey. That is mainly because of nondestructive character and relatively high-speed of data collection. Using GPR, t
