Probabilistic analysis of Steel frames focused on design concept of Eurocodes
Original language description
The concept of the reliability theory has already been accepted in practice. For example, it represents the theoretical basis adopted in practical design codes, such as Eurocodes [1]. In general, the safety check is, in limit state design, carried out for some principal limit states, as taking all the possible limit states into account is not practical and is almost impossible. Therefore, the choice of the limit states to be checked (and their computational model) is very important for securing the safeety. Designers are rather free at this point. On the contrary, the scope of designers is to do the safety check simply in accordance with the concept and methods specified in the design codes. The freedom of designers is so restricted. The aim of the paper is to show this unbalanced reliability using some typical steel frame structures.
