European directives requiring the obligation to work out a risk analysis of a serious accident caused with dangerous chemical substances are discussed. A steel storage tank and is analytically studied in this context, and, the necessity of accounting forrelevant loading scenarios is stressed. The randomness of some input parameters is taken intoaccount. The discussion reflects also the economical consequences.
