Distribution of moisture in building construction

  • Original language description

The roof is the most sensitive part of the building, mainly from the viewpoint of thermal indicators. If water vapor condenses in a flat roof, liquid moisture emerges in that part of the construction. As this is a non-stationary process, such moisture emerges irregularly over time. As a consequence of this, a moisture gradient originates. If there is a liquid moisture gradient in a porous material, it is an indicator of liquid moisture moving through capillaries. This phenomenon is called capillary conductivity of moisture, or transmission.
