    Traffic safety of multi-lanes roundabouts

  • Original language description

A single-lane roundabout is the safest type of level crossing, but it is necessary to increase their capacity due to the expansion of traffic. The right way is to use additional entry and circulating lanes. Unfortunately using classic mutli-lanes roundabouts lead only to a slight increase of intensity, while car accidents growth. A possible solution seems to be turbo roundabouts, where spiral arrangement of the lanes on the circuit, lead to reduce the number of conflict points while preserving higher capacity as we found during our measurements in the Netherlands and the Czech republic.
