Coupling finite elements and lattice-particle discrete elements
Original language description
The contribution shows a straightforward approach for connecting usual elastic finite elements and a lattice-particle discrete model for fracturing of concrete. This is accomplished by prescribing values of translational degrees of freedom of the discrete model at a contact plane according to shape functions of corresponding finite elements. Rotational degrees of freedom of these particles are considered to be independent on the finite element deformation field. Applicability of this method is demonstrated on a simulation of a three point bending (TPB) tests with a notch.
