Investigations of maximum discharge at overtopped embankment dams
Original language description
Embankment dam overtopping usually leads to dam failure. To prevent this failure, protection of the embankment dam body is very important. There are several possible ways of protecting dams against damage caused by overtopping. Some of the common types of structural protection, such as riprap and placed stones, have been tested on physical models at a laboratory at the Institute of Water Structures at Brno University of Technology. Experiments have been conducted for different dam slopes and with different sizes of stones, and the results analysed.
