Strengthening steel and timber beams using external bonded carbon - fibre reinforcement
Original language description
The problems of strengthening of steel or timber beams are widely discussed recently, because the practice very often requires increasing the load-carrying capacity of existing constructions, among them floor structures, for example. The usage of progressive advanced materials can be the effective way for the strengthening of steel beams (and also timber beams, respectively). In the last period, one of the modern methods for the load-carrying capacity increasing is strengthening by external reinforcement (lamellas or bars) based on fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP), usually using carbon fibres (CFRP) or glass fibres (GFRP).
