Original language description
The paper is focused on the possibilities of the usage of fibre-reinforced polymers or polymer composites respectively, to strength timber structural members of load-bearing civil engineering structures, in the case of reconstructions, for example. Strengthening timber beams using external reinforcement based on carbon-fibre-reinforced or glass-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP or GFRP) composites appears the advanced way. The paper deals with the problems of the application of externally bonded lamellas based on CFRP and GFRP composites for strengthening timber beams to increase their load-carrying capacity and stiffness, in the case of reconstructions of existing building constructions (e.g. historical buildings), for example. During the process of thebeam resistance investigation the attention is mainly paid to increasing load-bearing capacity in connection with increasing stiffness of the beams strengthened by lamellas mentioned.
