Application of the J´-integral and the cohesive approach for the creep crack modelling

  • Original language description

The subject of theoretical and experimental attention is the propagation of a macroscopic crack during the creep of austenitic steel, AISI 304L. To obtain input data, experiments were performed on bodies with and without a priori crack at a temperature of 973 K. A weak primary stage area is followed by an extensive area of stationary creep, as is shown. Propagation of the magistral crack occurred in a short interval defining the tertiary stage of life. A metallographic study of crack development showed cavitation failure along fracture path, intercrystalline damage was dominant. The description of the behaviour of a body with a dimensional defect (a priori crack) is monitored during high-temperature creep using a cohesive approach and implemented with help of cohesive elements in the finite element method (FEM). The parameter controlling the crack growth is the J˙ integral, the obtained results are compared with the experiments.
