On the damage factor in the macroscopic dynamic analysis of quasi-brittle materials and structures

  • Original language description

Numerical modelling and simulation of behaviour of materials consisting of several components and structures under various types of loads relies on the thermodynamical principles, together with some constitutive equations typically. Namely for quasi-brittle materials as ceramic ones, silicate composites inlcuding concrete, or rock formations, the crucial step in their formulation is the nonlocal evaluation of certain one or more smeared damage factors, identifiable by appropriate experiments. This short paper sketches the possibilities of the design of related mathematical and computational models, accompanied with references to some existence and convergence considerations, as well as to computational experiments, at least for special cases, open to further generalizations, whose stimulation by the discussion at ICNAAM 2023 can be expected.
