A New Method of how to Determine Elastic Constants in Tension and Compression by Four-Point Bending
Original language description
The paper describes deductions of analytical formulas for an experimental method based on four-point bending. This would enable us to determine constitutive material characteristics for a concrete material in tension and in compression. Determination ofcharacteristics is an identification problem with experimentally measured values of extreme tensile and compressive strains used as inputs in the solution algorithm of the inverse problem. This algorithm enables us to determine moduli of elasticity fromthe measured strains, assuming that the data on beam geometry and load are known. Accordingly, the core of the problem is an identification of material characteristics. For the direct problem, the formulas evaluating strains, stresses, and deflections ofthe beam (made of a material with different moduli of elasticity in tension and in compression) are derived in this paper. Finally, the results of the direct problem are used to deduce the formulas determining moduli of elasticity.
