Improvement of Biaxial Fatigue Live of Steel Specimens by Surface Nitriding
Original language description
The paper presents results of experimental investigation of fatigue resistance of virgin and plasma-nitrided specimens made of the low-alloy high-strength steel. The specimens were subjected to in-phase combined bending-torsion loading. The presence of surface layers has significantly improved the fatigue life in the high-cycle region. The prediction of biaxial fatigue life on the basis of uniaxial data was more successful when using the Papadopoulos criterion than the Gough-Pollard criterion.
