    Influence of FE Mesh On Cranktrain Dynamics And Stresses

    Present combustion engine development is closely connected to Finite Element Method (FEM). FE mesh generation is the initial step for successful stress-strain and fatigue analyses but contradictory requirements are demanded for the FE model. On one handa fine mesh for good result quality is requested. For later fatigue post processing the same mesh has to be used. Therefore the mesh has to be optimized for stress results. On the other hand the model size is restricted by hardware and software performance and CPU time. This paper contribute to a decision which type of elements should be used for FE analysis of a crankshaft.
