Aerodynamic characteristics computation of open wheel racing car
Original language description
The paper presents experimental, in particular computational approaches employed during design modifications of Formula Ford aimed at the increase of downforces. The process starts with scanned three-dimensional geometry obtained by the application of ATOS I optical scanner. A formula surface model is created on the basis of scanned primary data. Additional accessory aerodynamic elements (e.g. rear wing) are created using CAD tools. The surface model of Formula Ford for the given configuration has beenused for the development of computational grids utilizing CFD methods for the solution of external aerodynamics. External aerodynamic computational results of original and modified Formula Ford are compared at the end of the paper.
