DEPOSITION OF PARTICLES IN BIFURCATED CHANNEL - THE EFFECT OF SMALL FORCES
Original language description
Small forces, namely Brownian diffusion force and Van der Waals force effect was studied numerically in terms of deposition on the walls of bifurcated channel with application to human airways. The spherical particles were modelled in the Lagrangian frame in an incompressible air flow in a realistic model of part of human airways. The model shows difference in deposition for particles of various diameters under different flow conditions. Brownian force is shown to have decreasing effect with increasingdiameter and Stokes number of the particle. Van der Waals force on the other hand does not show such a tendency with the diameter. Model is developed and numerically tested on the realistic model of human tracheo-bronchial tree. The aim is to develop model which could be used in further studies of the drug-carriers deposition in human airways.
