Numerical Calculation of Mechanical Losses of the Piston Ring Pack of Internal Combustion Engines
Original language description
Piston rings of reciprocating internal combustion engines play an important role in the ability of car manufacturers to meet the strict limitations for exhaust gas emissions. Therefore their research and development is just as important as any other component of an engine. This work is intended to present a fast simulation model of the piston ring pack for the determination of the influence of various design parameters on friction losses. The main emphasis is not put on the precise estimation of the losses, but on the determination of the trends of its change. To demonstrate the power of the created simulation model, it has been applied to a three-cylinder passenger car engine.
