QE22 magnesium based hybrid composite and the basic QE22 alloy (Mg?2Ag?2RE) mechanical properties were examined in this study. Hybrid composite consisted from QE22 magnesium matrix reinforced by 5 vol.% Al2O3fibres and 15 vol.% SiC particles. Microstructure of basic alloy and hybrid composite was analyzed by SEM. Two types of mechanical test were performed to examine basic material and hybrid composite properties ? tensile test and compression test. Broken tensile test specimens fracture surfaces were examined and the difference in the fracture mechanism of the cast alloy and hybrid composite were observed. Obtained results and strengthening effect of composite reinforcement were discussed
