Software for Lubricating System Design
Original language description
1-WP06-002 - Software makes it possible to evaluate and optimize the load capacity, mass flow rate and mechanical losses of individual components of the lubrication system. The software incorporates an optimisation of the thrust bearing that is based on genetic algorithms in combination with an efficient computational model of thrust bearing lubrication and heat transfer. The presented evolutionary optimisation approach makes it possible to design a bearing with exceptional performance under both specific and extreme operating conditions. The optimisation approach is applied in the development of a journal and thrust bearings and bearing friction losses decreased by approximately 30% compared to serial lubricating system. At the same time, there is no significant decrease in the bearing ability to operate under off-design operating conditions. The software includes unique algorithms incorporated into guide user interface.

Technical parameters
The software for the design of lubrication system elements uses optimizations to reduce mechanical losses while maintaining the load capacity and lubricant flow rate. Optimization uses genetic algorithms with a specially defined objective function. The objective function incorporates multiple operating states, both design operating states and off-design operating states. The optimization is implemented in parallel on multiple processor cores.
Economical parameters
This software can be advantageously used for internal purposes of project participants in the development phase, preceding serial production, and therefore it is not possible to quantify with sufficient accuracy the direct economic benefits of its application. The benefit is secondarily reflected in the higher quality of commercially offered products in observable parameters such as reduced mechanical losses and thus higher turbocharger efficiency.
