Mechanical Properties of Flax and Hybrid Composite Materals
Original language description
This work deals with the study of the applicability of flax fabrics in the production of composite parts used in applications requiring material strength. The use of natural materials, in addition to environmental aspects, brings other benefits such as vibration and noise damping. Existing solutions for strength composite parts are mainly made of carbon composites, due to their low weight and high strength. To achieve high strength even with the use of flax composites, the application of a hybrid carbon - flax composite was adopted. For design and implementation purposes, several types of measurements were performed on each material specimen such as tensile test, three-point bending test and FRF based damping of the materials. The reinforcements tested were glass, carbon, flax and hybrid carbon flax with epoxy matrix. The carbon-flax hybrid material achieved the best properties in terms of the ratio of attenuation to strength.
