Comparison of the dynamics of selective and rolling cylinder deactivation on spark-ignition four-cylinder engine
Original language description
Strict emission limits force the automotive industry to reduce CO2 emission produced by internal combustion engines. The emission reduction can be achieved by implementing technologies like cylinder deactivation. The main benefit of cylinder deactivation is fuel consumption reduction. However, there are some negative effects associated with this approach. There are two types of cylinder deactivation, selective and rolling. This paper focuses on the constraints of the technology and compares both types of cylinder deactivation in terms of torsional vibration, friction losses and load of main bearings. The results are obtained from multi-body simulation.
