Digital Musical Effects by the Plug-In Method
Original language description
Technological development in the area of PC hardware and software has led to the personal computer transforming into a multimedia device that enables the reproduction, processing and also production of audio and video data. These processes take place within the so-called hard disk recording (HDR) studio, which is realized as PC software using special I/O interfaces (sound card, external A/D and D/A converters) for the inputs and outputs of the signals being processed. This opens up huge possibilities for various ways of real-time signal processing. The only limitation is given by the PC performance, either of the CPU itself or the extra card with signal processor. For the realization of musical effects within HDR, use is made of the technology of plug-in modules employing DirectX interface.
