Utilization of low-cost communication technology for IP datagram transmission

  • Original language description

This paper describes work concerning the modern trend of Internet - expansion to area of interconnection of small devices. It describes possible applications of Ethernet in automation. For TCP/IP based connection of simple highly distributed devices it proposes to use standard industrial communication bus CAN (Controller Area Network). This serial bus offers highly reliable and still cost effective means for small device interconnection. In the presented work are defined methods for device addressing annd IP address distribution over CAN bus. Also a fragmentation protocol for transfer of IP datagrams over CAN bus is specified.
