UWB Channel Models and FEC Schemes

  • Original language description

Channel models and forward error correcting codes (FEC) form an important part of the ultra wideband (UWB) physical layer. Since UWB standards are still under development, there is enough scope to experiment with new, novel, and efficient FEC schemes inorder to enhance the performance further and support its future applications. This paper presents the salient features of UWB channel models, and the design and performance analysis of UWB FEC schemes. The convolutional encoding and Viterbi decoding havebeen recommended in the UWB standards. The FEC schemes proposed here deal with, mainly, the concatenated coding schemes, both parallel and serial. The relevant channel models and their propagation conditions render the analysis more complete.
