Energy Consumption of Node Discovery Process in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Original language description

A discovery of network boundaries or topology structure is crucial process for the localization algorithms that do not rely at certain reference nodes with the known position. These algorithms take advantage of discovered nodes at the network periphery and calculate the position of all nodes in network by means of the distance measured to the boundaries and center nodes. This process of the boundary discovery introduces the significant energy load of the entire sensor network since it inquires of placement of all nodes in network. In the most known centralized approach all nodes end this determined information towards one certain node and thus introduces significant energy complexity of this process. We have made Matlab simulations to investigate the energy load that is introduced by the centralized algorithms to discover the reference nodes for the localization algorithm.
