Partial reconfiguration extension for Diamond OS
Original language description
Diamond is an operating system and a tool suit developed by 3L Company mainly for multiprocessor systems consisting of DSPs and FPGAs. Partial reconfiguration (PR) of FPGAs is technique that can save resources of FPGA and enhance flexibility of FPGA based system. Diamond OS does not support PR natively. This paper describes how Diamond can be extended to take advantage of PR and what profit that extension can bring. Limits that Diamond structure puts on PR usage are presented and possible solutions arediscussed. These limits are considered in three levels: integration to the design flow, integration to the OS and limits arising from HW architecture of one particular board used for tests.
