In this paper, the possibilities of using optical amplifiers in passive optical networks were tested. We focused on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA). At the present time, SOA have become more popular in optical networks. We compared SOA and ErbiumDoped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) in the laboratory passive optical network with bidirectional traffic.
