Flip Ambiguity and Multilateration in Ad-hoc Networks
Original language description
A lot of localization algorithms is based on the lateration principle using distances or angulation principle using angles. Because of erroneous measurement of distances or angles performed a priori localization algorithm is executed, the estimated coordinates feature localization error based on the accuracy of that measurements and robustness of the algorithm. This paper focuses on the inaccuracy of lateration and especially on the flip ambiguity phenomenon. Using Matlab simulations we show the problemof false estimation and propose a possible solution. Therefore, not only trilateration is considered but multilateration approach as well. Initial simulations show that using more than three nodes for the lateration should be advantageous, however, further and deeper analysis indicates other related problems which make multilateration unsuitable under general conditions.
